The next Big Thing in TV is about to arrive on the UK TV shores, FREESAT HD TELEVISION from our very own BBC, who would have predicted that one when its only a few years ago that the first HDTV's were first appearing in our retail electrical shops.
FREE HD TV has actually been available on Satellite for about 9 months now but what is new is the fact the BBC and other ITV companies have done the right thing for once and because of this brave "step in the right direction approach" it is going to help a lot of Struggling Electrical Stores recover lost ground in these uncertain Financial times.
The BBC has said it plans to start this new FREE HD TELEVISION SERVICE around the Spring Time of 2008.
It has to be said here and now that most of the services are available right now on the ASTRA SATELLITE BIRD on 28 Degrees East position incidentally this is the exact position from which SKY TV Currently uses and it is possible to use that very same SKY MINI DISH for the BBC FREESAT when it starts although you will need a new HD DIGITAL BOX in order for you to view any HD or HIGH DEFINITION Content that FREESAT are going to start Broadcasting from ASTRA 2.
FREESAT has really been very clever in using the same group of Satellites as SKY TV because it means both Platforms can run side by side without ruling each other out it also means that many ex SKY Subscription Customers may still have MINI DISHES that are still functional but no longer live on the SKY TV platform being able to use that equipment
for the new FREESAT HD TELEVISION SERVICE.
As we have said HDTV on Satellite is not new the BBC HD Channel has been available as a test channel for over a year and the picture quality has been outstanding to say the least, there are also about 20 other Free To Air Services on other Satellites most are testing channels and there are about 20 from SKY TV on their own platform and yet again the said 4 times better picture quality over SDTV does not give it justice as its much better than 4 times better any day especially when watching sports, wildlife and underwater programs.
FREESAT has said it expects it will cost under £150 for this HD SD TV package that's currently the same price as SKY TV Offers for its non subscription customers but the trouble for SKY TV is the fact FREESAT HDTV is going to be sold by so many big name High Street Retailers all bidding for your money and FREESAT Market Share then this price will surely decline into a FREESAT SATELLITE PRICE WAR with only gainers being us the Consumers?
There are about 4 good HD DIGITAL BOXES out there with SKY TV'S new HD DIGIBOX with its new Firmware being one of them but its being said that many HDTV Companies are about to begin production on these new breed of HD DIGITAL BOX we will have to wait until we get our hands on them before we can pass judgement on their Quality but the ones above are all excellent at delivering quality HDTV pictures.
The only Downside of buying an HD DIGITAL BOX now (apart from Sky TV's EXCELLENT onboard EPG) is just that no one knows yet what FREESAT will bring to the table regarding EPG but if its basic then all current HD DIGITAL BOXES can do EPG well and the only thing holding back the SKY product over the others is the fact the others from PACE, HUMAX, TOPFIELD and FORTEC STAR PASSION all have the ability to be on a Motorised Dish Setup and can pick up other Subscription European HD/SD TV programs from other programs and providers, more information on these receivers can be found on our other sister FREESAT Websites.
